Enterprising liberal Jew Simon Cohen is the lawless lord of an Amsterdam neighborhood, running a 'coffee' shop' (legal soft drugs sale). As soon as they bump into each-other, Simon fascinates gay, up to then conventionalist Jewish dentistry student Camiel Vrolijk and draws him into his libertine world, even all the way to Thailand for B-movie making. Hvaing seduced Simon's whorish girl, embarrassed Simon leaves quietly. Ten years later, the dentist, now settled with a gay partner, lawyer Bram, meets the new cancer-terminal but affluent Simon again.

One hour before the State Opening of Parliament, something very unusual happens. The Prime Minister appears and demands an adjustment to the Queen's speech. The speech concerns aid to Africa. In a car shop in Rotterdam, three car mechanics find out that the owner of the car shop, their colleague and boss, has a debt of EUR40.000 with the tax service. After unsuccessfully trying several possible solutions, these four beer drinking and cigarette smoking out-of-shape men ask their fifth colleague, a now physically disabled but also former marathon runner, to train them for a marathon. If they finish it, their debt will be paid, if they don't, they loose the garage.
