Tokyo's nasty underside, seen primarily through the eyes of Oscar, a heavy drug user, whose sister Linda is a stripper. Oscar also has flashbacks to his childhood when trauma upends the siblings. Oscar's drug-fed hallucinations alter Tokyo's already-disconcerting nights, and after the police shoot him, he can float above and look down: on his sister's sorrow, on the rooms of a love hotel, and on life at even a molecular level. The spectrum's colors can be beautiful; it's people's colorless lives that can be ugly. And what of afterlife, is there more than a void?

Livid over her husband's affair, Rose drives from Virginia to Delaware to confront (if not kill) the woman who dallied with her man. While unable to immediately confront the woman, Rose finds a British lad who's somewhat stranded after coming to America, having pursued a pretty girl he once met but finding her now with another. Both emotionally adrift, Rose and the boy end up with each other for company at her parent's beach home, even roll-playing while Rose awaits the chance to confront her elusive romantic rival.

Set in Glasgow, Scotland, the film is about a girl called Eve who is in the hospital dealing with some emotional problems and starts writing songs as a way of getting better. Songwriting becomes her way forward, leading her to the City where she meets James and Cassie, two musicians each at crossroads of their own. What follows is a story of renaissance over the course of a long, dream-like Summer.
