Chennai-based ACP Anbuselvan works together with a team of anti-narcotics officers and with the help of an informer virtually bring drug-dealing to an end. He is dedicated and believes being involved with anyone romantically may endanger her life, but changes his mind after he meets with Maya. Unknown to the entire unit, the informer was working for a gangster, who wanted all competition eliminated, and thus reign as the king of the underworld. Then Anbuselvan's world will be shattered when he and some of his team will be suspended for their involvement in the killing of a gangster, the brother of Pandiyan, while the latter vows that he will not rest until he has killed the entire team and their respective families.

Surya (Surya Sivakumar) is away at war as his father, Krisnan (also Surya) dies of lung cancer. As Surya sits on a plane in combat gear heading into battle, he reminisces about his father's influence in his life. The film opens with the father Krishnan's romance with Malini (Simram), which in turn is contrasted with the son's aggressive courting of an engineering student Meghana (Sameera Reddy) from a train ride in Tamil Nadu to her graduate studies in Berkeley. The romance is swiftly followed by an extended period of professional and personal uncertainty, in which the son turns back to father figures to help him get back on his feet and seek out his true calling. Well made, though overlong film, reportedly autobiographical about the director's own relationship with his father.

Flashback, a young wannabe filmmaker Kartik (Simbu) shares a house with a Keralite family, whose daughter Jessie (Trisha) he instantly falls in love with. After a few minor spurns, Kartik chases Jessie to her hometown and gradually begin a relationship. Trouble brews when her family finds out, leading to fist-cuffs, and Jessie's father fixing her marriage with a boy within the community. The couple continue to meet, but as his filmmaking career starts to take off, there is new friction in their relationship and a drastic step from Jessie.
